Multi-Station Home Gyms

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

What are they?

Freestanding training units using weights to offer resistance to a range of body movements. Found in public
gyms, athlete-training centers and now from the comfort of your own home gym.

How do they work?

A steel frame is set up with a series of pulleys, weights and cables. Varying exercises can be performed on these with the weights offering resistance to work muscles beyond everyday activity.

Which is best?

There really is no one size fits all. Test them with lighter weights first to get a feel for set up. If awkward
or uncomfortable once adjusted, it probably isn’t the right design for your body.

What does multi-station mean?

A round of exercises is usually called a circuit (i.e. circuit training) and each action you perform around the
machine is known as a station. Hence, multi-stations means more than one station can be performed on the equipment.

How many stations will I get?

The more you pay the more variety you get. A basic would have around 10-15 and that can range up to 70 or more. Ease of use is much better to start with.

What does a station do?

Each station is designed to work a different set of muscles. They are also set up with correct technique in
mind, which is very important. Don’t overdo the weights. Just because you can lift it on the first round, does not mean you will on the last one if you’ve worked too hard.

Being “Green”

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

It seems almost inconceivable to think that starting my car and letting it run for five minutes to get the
heat or air conditioning going has any effect on the earth’s pulse, but when you multiply that millions of
times, there’s no doubt that it has a serious effect.
Simple things that we do, or don’t do, have an effect on our planet’s precious atmosphere. How many times a
week do you go to the coffeehouse and get your coffee in a paper or cardboard cup? You might have thought
about how many years it takes for that cup to decompose, but have you thought about the energy that
went into the production and transportation of that cup? Multiplied by…?

Do you reduce, re-use and recycle? Make it a goal to reduce the amount of garbage you produce by recycling
and composting. Your town office or city hall will provide you with a list of how to separate your items
for recycling. Every item that you can re-use or recycle is one less item in the landfill.

One of the simplest ways to help is to purchase and use cloth shopping bags. The hard part is remembering
to take them out of the car and into the store, but once you get into the habit, it becomes second nature.
Resolve to not accept plastic bags in a store.

Traveling in a gas-powered vehicle as little as possible is a great way to conserve. Walk or bike
whenever and wherever you can; it’ll help the planet and your health. If you live in the city, use public
transportation. Likewise, if you live in the country, carpool to work and instead of making several trips a
week to run errands, save them for one trip.
If you take the time to think about your daily activities, and how you can do them a little
differently, you may find yourself not only helping the environment, but helping your wallet. Do only full
loads of laundry and dishes; cut your shower by two minutes; switch to energy-saving light bulbs; turn
your refrigerator and air conditioner up a single degree and turning off your electronic devices at
night are all painless ways to help.

Challenge yourself to think before you act for a few days and you will surprised at how easy it is to begin
the process of going green.

Inquire About Clients

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

As with any employee, you are going to want to find out the past type of work that they have done.

During the interview, inquire about the companies and individuals that the consultant has worked for. A
mistake that people make when they see big name corporations on the person’s resume’ is to assume that
they are great because they worked for a big name company.

The thing to remember about big name corporations is that they sometimes hire consultants for short periods of time if they have expertise that is needed for a certain project.

Don’t take a chance and hire someone simply because they have an impressive resume’. Anyone can write down names and companies on a piece of paper.

Take the time to get in contact with the referrals and find out what exactly the person did for the person or
company.

It’s always a good idea to check out the referrals that a prospective consultant has given you and make
sure that the claims that they make are well founded.

You want to know that the consultant can do what they claim to be able to do, and that they will be able to
do the work that they will be given.

After all, you are putting your company in their hands and trusting them to give you good advice. Remember,
even if you think you have found the consultant you are looking for, keep your appointments.

You may find one that you like better.
